My friend Vinnie mentioned a few years ago that she had many Lilly Pulitzer dresses that she had outgrown and had imagined that the fabric would make a lovely quilt. Lilly Pulitzer, of course, is the renowned women’s fashion designer famous for her use of very colorful, bright, floral cotton prints.
Even though the clothing was more than ten years old, she just could not bare to depart with her beloved Lilly Pulitzer dresses and skirts. Thus, her solution was to have this quilt made for her. Believe me, it was quite heart breaking taking those beautiful dresses apart, but the result was worth it.
To make the quilt, I cut out 64 ten-inch squares from more that 20 dresses and skirts. I used a bright pink cotton with small white polka-dots for the sashing, and another pink fabric with larger white polka-dots for the lining. It was long-arm machine quilted in a beautiful feathers and flowers design. I used a bright pink, green and white stripe cotton for the binding. The size of the quilt is 100 x 100 inches.
The result, I believe, is quite stunning. My friend Vinnie was very pleased with her new Lilly Pulitzer quilt.
