Custom Quilts

Sheila’s Quilt Studio is currently taking orders for custom-made-to-order quilts. I will work with you to plan out the design, colors, size, and select fabrics once you have committed to purchasing a custom-made-to-order quilt. Perhaps you have seen a design online that you really like, and you have specific fabric colors in mind for a quilt you have been wishing for.

Please use the Contact Form provided on this website to express your interest in having a custom quilt made. Please provide as much information as possible regarding what you would like. For example, please mention if you have a specific design, fabric colors, and the size quilt you have in mind. The more information I have, the easier it will be to provide an accurate estimate of the cost. Please leave your phone number on the contact form and I will call you and we can discuss the project over the phone.

If you are interested in making a custom quilt purchase, we will start with deciding on the quilt design pattern. We will then move on to fabric selection and color choices. After we have decided on fabrics and colors and confirm the size, I will prepare a detailed proposal for you. Once the 50% deposit is received, I will order fabrics and get started on piecing your quilt. There may be choices and different options that may or may not come up along the way. Custom quilt orders take approximately 6 to 8 weeks, and a 50% deposit is required.

An important consideration is the size of the quilt. If you are having a bed size quilt made, you need to decide how much drape you would like on the side of your bed. It may depend on the kind of bed frame that you have. Some beds have wooden frames where a limited amount of drape is required. Please make sure you order the exact measurements (width and length) that you want. I recommend taking a tape measure to the bed to determine the exact length and width that you want.

Bed size custom quilts are quilted on a long-arm computerized machine and there are many different designs to choose from. When washing, I recommend using cool water, very mild detergent, and the gentle cycle on your washing machine. Lay the quilt out to dry on the grass on a warm sunny day on top of a large sheet.

Another customer ordered a “Winnie-the-Pooh” themed baby quilt to give as a special baby shower present. This quilt was made by cutting out six-inch squares from a vintage Disney print. The double borders were added and I quilted them in a cross-hatch design. She was very pleased with the result.

This charming lap quilt was made especially for my sister’s new home in the pacific northwest. She was delighted with the distinctive design and shades of forest green in the quilt.
