My Aunt Joan (Joan Mathilde McManus Berwick) passed away on January 12, 2018. She was such a beloved aunt and an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was especially renowned for her expertise in quilt piecing and hand quilting.
She was honored at her memorial service by a display of dozens of quilts that she made for friends and family members.
Here is my Aunt Joan hand quilting at her quilting frame.
I also want to share a quote from her obituary. “Joan’s prowess in “rocking the needle” led to her winning many quilting awards, most notably an honorable mention for her rendition of the Pride of Baltimore, which traveled the US on display for a year. Her display of strength, grace, and humility was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.” — Cecil Whig
